1898 Soldier's mail with 2c U.S. stamp and UNITED STATES POST OFFICE, MILITARY STATION No.1, CUBA cancel.  This two line canceller was the first used by the U.S. Post Office in Cuba.  It was in use from June 25th until about July 10th.  Given the late date of July 29th on the receiving cancel, it was probably sent from Siboney.

1898 Soldier's mail with 2c U.S. postal stationary and UNITED STATES POST OFFICE, MILITARY STATION No.1, CUBA cancel.  This two line canceller was the first used by the U.S. Post Office in Cuba.  It was in use from June 25th until about July 10th.  Given the late date of July 23rd on the receiving cancel, it was probably sent from Siboney.

1898 Soldier's mail with use of captured Spanish steel canceller.  The town of Santiago surrendered on July 16, 1898 and the U.S. Post Office moved into the Spanish Post Office building on July 23rd.  They began using the better quality Spanish cancellers around this time.  Letter posted August 1, 1898.  Postage Due was paid by the receiver as was allowed for U.S. troops in the field.

1898 Dec. 3, 1898.  Civilian rate letter to the U.S. with Type II cancel, MILITARY STATION No.1 SANTIAGO DE CUBA, that came into use around August of that year and included a "1" in the small circle to the right of the cancel.

1898 June 14, 1898.  Letter with U.S. 2c stamp sent to "U.S. Postal Service for Cuba" in New York.  It was then forwarded to Tampa, Key West and finally Santiago, Cuba where it presumably reached the person it was address to.
